Farm Life

A little farm photography for the day.. I would love to take pictures of the entire farming operation that happens around my home and someday I will. For now, here are a few pics taken in August that show a small portion of the farm. 

Adventures in Painting

For Christmas I was given some acrylic paint and some paint brushes.  When I finally got a hold of some paper I became a painting fool! It was so much fun, relaxing and creative.  What I've found is that it changes your whole perspective on the world.  As someone who loves photography I already could appreciate my surroundings but suddenly the monochromatic winter scene was extra appealing.  I wasn't craving the green that spring and summer bring.  I tend to gravitate toward a more neutral palette anyway and the painting reinforced that.  For now I am simply looking at photographs and trying to paint them but I am excited to venture farther into it.

For the 12th day this year

It has been obnoxiously cold this winter with the 12th day this year below zero.  Today it was -9, yesterday it was -11 and the day before was -12. We are all a little sick of it. The chicken eggs are freezing, their water is freezing within a few hours and I have to cover Noel's little face everytime we leave the house.  Not to mention the inability to just get the kids outside without the onslaught of frostbite within minutes.  But on the flip side, the mornings are beyond words. It is beautiful out there and I may or may not have trudged through 8 inches of snow and froze my butt off just to get some pictures.
